Chasing-Shear vs Flying-Shear Wire Straighteners: What’s the Difference?

Chasing-shear straighteners and flying-shear straighteners are common metal-processing machines for iron, stainless, galvanized, aluminum and similar wires. They differ in working principle and application.

A chasing-shear straightener straightens and cuts metal under a fixed upper knife, pressure turning and a lower pressure plate. The shear mechanism is parallel to the workpiece and moves in reciprocation; by changing speed in the non-synchronous zone it achieves straightening and cutting.

A flying-shear straightener cuts metal with blades moving in flight — suited to finer or multi-component materials. The shear mechanism usually moves in a circular path in the same direction as the workpiece; changing running speed adjusts cut length.

In short, chasing-shear and flying-shear straighteners differ in principle. The chasing shear moves parallel to the workpiece in reciprocation; the flying shear typically moves circularly with the workpiece. Each suits different wire types and processing needs.
