Camless vs Conventional Spring Machines: What’s the Difference?

Camless and conventional spring machines differ in working principle and structure. Rotary camless spring machines evolved from traditional cam spring machines and typically include a main unit, control system, motor power unit, auxiliaries and accessories—moving from electro-mechanical control toward mechatronic and optoelectronic integration. The main unit uses alloy-steel cast panels, guideways, slides and high-precision gears that raise rigidity and running accuracy. They widely produce compression, tension and torsion springs, wire forms and bends, and special springs for automotive, electronics, toys, sports equipment and home appliances.

Working principle: conventional spring machines usually use a cam drive that rotates to control forming. Camless machines use advanced servo drives—motors and servo controllers—to control forming precisely.

Accuracy and stability: servo drive enables higher precision and stability, tightly controlling length, diameter, spring rate and other parameters for demanding spring manufacture.

Automation: camless machines often include advanced automation—auto loading/unloading, auto parameter adjustment and auto inspection—while conventional machines usually need more manual operation and setup.

Versatility: camless machines typically offer more functions and flexibility for compression, extension and torsion springs; conventional machines may suit a narrower set of spring types.
